Joy Hinkelman is the Executive Director of the Wellness Center for Older Adults (WCOA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering older adults and caregivers to live with dignity, independence, and well-being. Since stepping into the role in 2018, Joy has led the organization through a period of remarkable growth, strategic expansion, and innovative program development designed to meet the evolving needs of the aging population.
With more than 25 years of nonprofit leadership experience, Joy is recognized for her compassionate, mission-driven leadership and her commitment to building collaborative systems of care that support vulnerable populations. Her leadership philosophy emphasizes community engagement, data-informed decision-making, and a deep personal commitment to ensuring older adults are seen, heard, and valued.
Joy is a graduate of Leadership Plano Class 39 and served on the Leadership Plano Advisory Board from 2023–2026. In recognition of her civic leadership and community impact, she was honored as a Plano Profile Woman of Inspiration, Class of 2025. An active member of the Plano West Rotary Club, Joy served as Club President from 2022–2023 and currently serves as an Assistant Governor for Rotary District 5810.
She holds a degree in Organizational Development with a concentration in Nonprofit Management, along with professional certifications in Nonprofit Management, Marketing, and Development. Throughout her career, Joy has championed programs and initiatives that prioritize dignity, equity, and access for all.
Joy and her husband, Gary, a retired U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant, are proud parents of three adult children: Samantha, Spenser, and Jonathan. Her greatest joy is spending time with her grandchildren. Outside of work, Joy enjoys quilting, crocheting, and making memories with her family.
